How has the traffic in Durchtown, LA gotten so ridiculous? I can't understand how a 3 mile commute to access the interstate can take 30 minutes. I've lived here all of my life and seen this condition consistently deteriorate. It has gotten to the point where you cannot depend on your route to work to get you there on time. I've had enough of it. There are way too many people in this community now and new residents are settling in everyday.
This little community does not have the infrastructure to handle this kind of urban influx. Go down the street to Sorrento or Gramercy. Don't come here! And.....what do you know; late for work...again.

Traveling to Covington, LA (Part 4)
This morning we started the day with brunch in the main dining room of Annadele plantation just after checking out of our room. Brunch like everything else hear was incredible. I had the shrimp and grits that was like a very traditional New Orleans style shrimp and grits. Lady Gywnivere had the Crab Cake Benedict. This was a special dish on the menu which included poached eggs set atop crab cakes served with sugar snap peas and brandant potatoes. In the traditional southern plantation antebellum style, I had two mint juleps with brunch. My wife also had one. I like mine with Woodford Reserve whiskey. Lady Gwynivere had hers with Captain Morgans' rum.
Even though our weekend stay at Annadelle came to an end, we made the most of the quest home. Our adventuring took us to the I-12 flea market. I rarely find things to buy at these swap meets, however my wife always does. So I have accepted my role as the one that holds the merchandise that she purchases. She had found an owl necklace, a worry-ring and scented bar of soap called twilight woods. Of course, when you stop at a flea market, you have to get a funnel cake. Delicious!
Our second and last stop on the way home brought us to Ponchatuola, LA where we found the biggest antique store we had ever seen. It's called C.J.'s Antiques and collectibles. I can't even guess how many thousands of square footage this place has. They had a little of everything here from antique farming tools, bone china, hollywood memorabilia, records, furniture and everything in between. Lady Gywnivere found a lovely rosary bracelet, solid blue planter with a man and women figurine attached and also a small cherub statue. The weather for the whole weekend could not have been any nicer for us. Annadele plantation was a wonderful place to visit and we will definitely be planning to return soon.
Fin.

Traveling to Covington, LA (Part 3)
Our evening at Annadele plantation couldn't have been more enjoyable. The atmosphere was wonderful and the food superb. It started in the bar downstairs where I had a Mint Julep made with Woodford Reserve bourbon. The bartender did not disappoint as this was an exceptional mint julep (and i pride myself on being a connoisseur of mint juleps). Lady Gwynivere was drinking J'Lohr merlot, an outstanding red wine.
At dinner, our waitress was extremely polite and knowledgable. For an appetizer, we started with sharing the Savory chesscake, which was almost like a quiche with onions and crab topped with BBQ shrimp. This was incredible. Next, we shared a cup of Annadele's award-winning turtle soup. This was a savory soup with a little bit of spice, but not too much. A testament to how good these first to dishes were is that Lady Gwynivere does not like mushrooms. Both of these dishes contained mushrooms and she absolutely loved them. Brilliant!
For our entrees, Lady Gwynivere had the fillet mignon with yukon gold potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly. Pink throughout the center but not bloody. It was juicy and had a nice sear to the outside. I had the duck breast and quail set on top mushroom risotto. Once again, the duck and quail were cooked perfectly. They were not gamey at all. The quail was infused with a delicious rosemary flavor and it all set in a delicious truffle olive oil.
Dessert was the perfect close to a perfect meal. We both had the Vanilla Bean Creme Brûlée. Topped with a dab of whipped cream and a strawberry, I think any french chef would agree that this creme brûlée is deserving of top honors even in France. I apologize to anyone reading this blog that i did not get a picture of every item of our dinner. Everything was just so good that we were too excited to eat it before taking a picture of it even crossed our minds.

Traveling to Covington, LA (Part 2)
It was a beautiful day to explore downtown Covington. We started off by visiting the farmers market that is held every Saturday. Live music and people sampling their wares. Lady Gwynivere purchased some fancy soaps made from olive oil. We also visited a merchant selling delicious italian made cookies and pastries. We bought some fig cookies from there that look amazing.
We hit a few shops after leaving the farmers market. The renaissance antiques shop had a couple of things we wanted. We stopped by the natural food market and the History Antiques store. Mo's Art Supply was a great shop to stop at for anyone who is interested in painting. Lady Gwynivere bought a really nice Weston Half French Easel at a great price, which is something she has been needing.
We stopped for lunch around 2pm at the English Tea room. You should definitely have reservations before going here because it took quite a while to get a table without one. It was an excellent cuppa however. I had Scottish Breakfast black tea and Lady Gwynivere had Versailles Lavender Earl Grey. For lunch we both had the spinach and artichoke quiche with a scone that was really good.
Tonight we are having dinner at the Annadele Restaurant. Looking forward to going down stairs to the neat pub and knocking back perhaps a couple of pints or maybe even a Mint Julep before dinner. We'll see.

Traveling to Covington, LA (Part 1)
My wife and I are staying at the lovely Annadele Plantation in Covington, LA for the weekend. So far the plantation is a beautiful place and the staff is very nice and accommodating. The food is outstanding!
As soon as we got into Covington, we went straight to the Abita brewing company for the brewery tour. This was an awesome experience. Not only do you get to see how the beers are made but get all the free samples of their brews that you want...turbo dog, andygator, abbey ale...it was beer paradise. I love imported english ales and abita is one of the few domestic beers that closely match the taste of those traditional english ales.
Today we are heading out to the historic district of Covington. Some places on the list are the english tea room, the farmers market and antique shops!
